Description

Abington Park is one of the jewels in Northampton’s crown.

The expansive parkland contains the ruins of the former medieval village of Abington, including a lone dovecote, archway and the 13th century Church of St Peter and St Paul, which served the village and was recorded in the Domesday Book. The park was first awarded the prestigious Green Flag in 2014 and has maintained the accreditation ever since. It is a firm family favourite, with its large children's play area, ornamental gardens, lakes graced by swans and wildfowl, and historic aviary, which is home to a much-loved flock of budgerigars, love birds and peacocks. Squirrels scamper across tree-lined pathways, joined by dog walkers and joggers, while the more energetic visitor can use the cross-training equipment on the fitness trail, or hire a court for a game of tennis. Brass, concert and jazz bands perform free concerts at the park’s beautiful Victorian Bandstand every Sunday afternoon throughout the summer, and many other family events and festivals take place in the wider park.

A pleasant cafe and outdoor terrace overlooks the bandstand lawn. Nestled within the park, visitors will find Abington Park Museum, a 16th century, Grade I listed manor house,
