Northampton retail

The town centre offers a good mix of high street favourites and independent stores for a spot of retail therapy. The pedestrianised  Abington Street traversing the retail centre of the town, is home to H&M, Clarks and Waterstones Bookshop, while many popular high street stores are located within the Grosvenor Shopping Centre, including River Island, New Look, Next and Primark, to name a few.

The lovely St Giles’ Street, winner of the Great British High Street Award, is awash with independent shopping delights. St Giles’ Cheese, Montague Jeffery menswear, Voni Blu ladieswear, Bonds and St Gyles Jewellers, Dychurch Lifestyle footwear and Abraxas Cook Shop, are joined by more recent additions - Vintage Guru and Mooch gifts.

Northampton’s historic Market Square is one of the oldest and largest in England. The square is fringed by impressive Georgian buildings and is often referred to as the heart of the town. This is because after the Great Fire of Northampton in 1675, the town was rebuilt around it.  Debenham's department store is just a stone's throw away from the market, offering ladies, mens and childrens clothing under one roof.

The Wellingborough Road is also a popular shopping destination, with plenty of unique, fashion and specialist shops. This includes Thackerays, founded in Northampton over 40 years ago which has since grown into one of the most respected, high-end independent fashion retailers in the country. Steffan's Jewellers, is also another long established, family-run business.

There are also several out-of-town retail parks including St James and Nene Valley just to the south of the town centre, Riverside on the A45 at the eastern end of the town, and Sixfields, close to the Northampton Town Football Club stadium.
